Scientific hypothesis: Adhered cells on material surfaces may generate cell traction force (CTF). Through the transmission of CTF, cells can sense the mechanical properties of materials. In this regard, the adsorbed protein layers is a bridge between cells and materials. We hypothesize that the interfacial force between protein layers and materials (Fad) may regulate the CTF transmission and further regulate the perception and responses of cells to material properties.
